Wooster Science Cafe: The Science of Invasive Pests

Join us as we welcome Ashley Leach and Olivia Lang on the Science of Invasive Pests: Ohio’s newest invasive pest, the spotted lanternfly, has received much media attention recently. Our talk will explore what’s known and unknown around this invasive pest. We will also help folks learn how to identify a spotted lanternfly egg mass by using some 3D printed models.

Ashley Leach is an Assistant Professor in Specialty Crop Entomology in the Department of Entomology at OSU’s OARDC. She is an applied entomologist specializing in the development of integrated pest management in specialty cropping systems.

Olivia Lang is a graduate student in the Department of Entomology at OSU’s OARDC. Her work focuses on informing people around the identification of pest egg masses using 3D printing to design extension tools.

The Wooster Science Café was established to provide a forum in the Wooster community for dialog between the public and scientists about contemporary topics. Talks are held on the first Wednesday of each month, starting in September and ending in May.

Everyone is welcome to attend!

We request that all attendees wear face masks.
