Jenny Fischer and the Spanish for Work (GENSSC1181T) class will assemble Dia de los Muertos altars this year in two locations: Skou Lounge and Wooster Science Building. Nathan Crook will also have his class participate, as they did last year.
Decorating the altar or adding to it with personal items is a beautiful cultural experience. It can also be a place where people may find something that makes sense to them, a space where they can bring their expertise and talent. The hope is to involve many different populations on campus, so everyone is invited to add to the altar through names of loved ones who have passed, photos, stories... whatever feels right to them.
Uttara Samarakoon and Zoey Keith will provide marigolds for decorating the altars, and Ben King has already begun working on the arch that symbolically connects the living with those who have gone before us. Set up will be Friday, Nov. 1%, starting at 1:30 pm in Skou Lounge. Altar assembly in WSB will be™ next. The altars will remain for up to a week and any help with dismantling and aftermath clean up would be appreciated too.
