Collin's Law - Ohio's Anti-Hazing Act
Collin’s Law – Ohio’s Anti-Hazing Act
This is an important moment in our state’s and university’s commitment to eradicating any form of hazing in educational institutions across Ohio. Collin’s Law, Ohio’s Anti Hazing Act, which went into effect at the beginning of October enacted a number of important requirements and changes, all to end hazing and interrupt contributing factors that have enabled the persistence of hazing in the past. Ohio State University’s communication about Collin’s Law can be found online.
Hazing Prevention Training for Students
A component of the law is required education for all students before they join a student group. As we continue to promote a culture of care this is an important step in preventing hazing. There will be multiple hazing prevention trainings open to all students to fulfill this requirement before joining a student group. This training will cover definitions of hazing, awareness, prevention, intervention, and reporting. This training is open to all students and is strongly recommended even if they are already part of a group.
Training offerings for the rest of the Autumn 2021 semester can be found below or at go.osu.edu/Hazing. We ask that you register for these trainings at least 24 hours in advance.
Student Training Opportunities - *These are training sessions offered by Columbus Student Life. Watch email and Buckeye Buzz for Wooster Training sessions in January.

- Tuesday, December 7 at 3:00 PM (Zoom)

Advisor Training
Training will also be required for student organization advisors. More information about advisor training will be announced soon.
Reporting
To create a community free of hazing, we must first report hazing when we experience it, see it or suspect it. It is imperative that everyone with knowledge of hazing reports it. Ohio State students and registered student organizations are required to report hazing as the failure to prevent, intervene or report acts of hazing may also be considered acts of hazing.
You may have additional reporting obligations under Ohio law. Specifically, Collin's Law: The Ohio Anti-Hazing Act Sec. 2903.311 (B).
If you are a university employee and have questions about your reporting obligations under Ohio law, please contact the Office of Legal Affairs at 614-292-0611.
If you are a student and have questions about your reporting obligations under Ohio law, please contact Student Legal Services at 614-247-5853.
Go to go.osu.edu/reporthazing for information and instructions on how to report hazing to the university and to law enforcement.
- If anyone is experiencing harm or is in imminent danger, please call 9-1-1.
- For on-campus reports, call OSUPD at 614-292-2121.
- To report off-campus behavior call Wooster police at 330-287-5702 (non-emergency number)
