Milking Position on a Wayne County Dairy Farm

Hiring full-time or part-time positions. Duties:  milk cows, identify sick cows, report sick cows to management, treat cows with mastitis, withhold milk from treated cows from milk supply and storage.  Individual will be milking by themselves. Milking times are approximately 4:00 to 8:30 am and 4:00 to 8:30 pm. Dairy located in the Creston, Ohio area; milk 150 cows 2 times per day.

OARDC Greehhouse

The OARDC Greenhouse is looking to hire a student worker to assist in: Maintaining equipment and greenhouses in the Horticulture and Crop Science Department on the OARDC campus: 1. Plant, water, fertilizes, and maintains greenhouse plants per specifications for each research project 2. Prepares soil mixes; mixes and applies fertilizers 3. Install and maintains irrigation systems; participates in designing modification and/or adaptations to irrigation system to meet specific needs. 4. Help take down and hang new lights 5. Cleans and maintains greenhouse and growth chamber facilities(sweeping and hosing greenhouse rooms and hallways, washing pots, dumping trash) 6. Integrated pest management (IPM) in existing crop-protection techniques and strategies to control pests and disease.

Loyer Farms near Marion, OH is in need of farm help.  We are a family farm that raises corn, beans, wheat, hay, straw and cattle.  We farm about 2800 acres. We utilize modern technology with auto steer, GPS, yield monitors, etc.  We use cutting edge ideas when planning our chemical and fertilizer programs and we care about doing things in a manner that is the best for the soil. 

Duties would include:

    Operating JD & Case tractors, heavy machinery, backhoe, etc

    Driving semi’s – hauling grain and fertilizer.

    Running the grain cart & helping during harvest.

    Tending the planters during planting season.

    Baling straw & hay.

    Servicing & fixing equipment in our shop.

    And anything else that needs done around the farm.

Experience operating equipment is required.  Salary is based on experience. The hours can be long, the work can be hard but if you love farming, this job could be for you!

Student Summer Help - Horticulture Unit Farm

OARDC-Wooster  Viticulture (grape growing) Position

Worker will assist full-time staff and graduate students in the field of viticulture (grape growing) to help maintain our Wooster vineyard (off-site vineyard work possible).  Position to include working with vines in the greenhouse setting as well as field work which includes all weather conditions (heat/rain).  Some lifting involved as well as collection of data, data entry, juice analysis and harvesting of crop. In addition to vineyard work, other training opportunities in the lab include the following:

- Grapevine physiology (biotic and abiotic stress)

- Grapevine biology (biochemistry, tissue culture, genetic transformation)

- Controlled environment (high tunnel, greenhouse, rain shelter, etc)

- Soil health/mulching

Qualifications:

Garden Student Assistant Position (R9169)

The Horticulture Division has two student positions open for summer.  24 - 30 hours per week.

Student gardening assistants will help plant the campus learning gardens, as well as decorative flower bed installations at building entrances, parking lots and entry signs.  Gardening assistants will work under the supervision of the Staff Floriculturist and Staff Horticulturist to maintain plantings to the highest level of horticultural standards. These students will cater to each gardens’ unique needs as the seasons progress. The students will perform planting, mulching, watering, labeling, weeding, and deadheading; all necessary duties required in maintaining a healthy garden environment.
